Barcode labelers are responsible for printing and attaching the U.P.C. barcodes to products. The vertical black lines of differing thicknesses, allow for inventory tracking and rapid checkout in stores.
Overview
Products large and small need a means for computers to identify them quickly. The simplest method of achieving this is by labeling. A scanner connected to a computer interprets the barcode to identify the product.
Solution
As a product passes along the production line, it enters the labeling stage. One of the labels to be attached is the barcode. The barcode labeler can be integrated as part of an existing product labeling line to save time and the expense of a separate labeling station. The barcode is specific to a particular product, and is printed onto the label immediately before it is to be applied. A computer instructs the printer to generate the barcode label and what the label code should be. Pressure-sensitive labels feed into the applicator. When the product enters the application grid, it has been correctly positioned by a series of guides to ensure proper label placement. The barcode applicator applies the label by means of one of the following methods: Air-Blow, Tamp-Blow, or Wipe-On.
Once the label is affixed, the product moves on, and a new item takes its place on the application grid. Integrating the labeling system with the production process ensures a fast, accurate method of labeling and ensures product consistency between batches.
