Labeling Machinery

Labeling machinery is an integral part of the industrial manufacturing process. Commercial use of labeling machinery includes printing and application of product information labels, as well as shipping labels.

Commercial use of labeling equipment varies depending on the manufacturing or industrial processes it is associated with. Labeling machinery can be configured to handle products of various shapes and sizes, from long necked wine bottles, cylindrical plastic bottles, DVD cases and other unique shapes.

Versatile product handling ability allows labeling equipment to adapt to different packaging types with minimal downtime needed to make label changes between product runs. Some commercial labeling systems, such as Label-Aire's line of industrial label applicators, work with OEM printers, and are designed to integrate with existing production equipment.

Label Types:

• Pressure sensitive labels - This type of label has an adhesive glue backing, which will adhere to most surfaces when applied.
• Pre-printed Labels - The labels are printed else where and require application only. Ideal for large production environments where product information and labeling do not need to change.
• Print & Apply - Print and apply labeling technology is used for a myriad of manufacturing labeling needs including application of U.P.C. (universal product code) or barcodes, content labels, shipping labels, and graphic images for product branding.
• RFID - radio frequency identification RFID tags are available embedded in self-adhesive paper labels
• Security Tags - Security Labels used on packaging at retail stores and video rental stores and libraries.
• Shrink Sleeve - a sleeving machine pre-printed sleeves are applied to the container and then shrunk to fit the contours of the container using heat.

Label Applicator Methods:

• Air-Blow Labeling
  Using Air-Blow Technology, the label is held in place by the labeler's vacuum grid. At the precise moment the area on the product to be labeled passes under the grid, air jets are activated. The label is then instantly and accurately blown on to the product.
• Tamp-Blow Labeling
  Tamp-Blow Technology holds the label in place by vacuum on the applicator pad as it extends toward the product. At the precise moment the area on the product to be labeled passes under the pad the label is plown instantly and accurate on to the product and tamped securely into place.
• Wipe-On Labeling
  With Wipe-On applicator technology, the label, moving at the same speed as the product, is dispensed as the product passes down the conveyor. The applicator brush smoothly and accurately wipes the label onto the product's surface.
• Dual Action Tamp Labeling
  A Dual Action Tamp Applicator holds the label in place by the labeler's dual action vacuum tamp pad. At the precise moment the side of the product passes by the pad, the applicator cylinder extends toward the product, instantly and accurately applying the label. Once retracted, a second label is placed on the vacuum tamp pad which then rotates 90 degrees across the conveyor to apply the rear label.
• Corner Wrap Labeling
  Corner Wrap Label Applicators hold the label in place by the labeler's dual action vacuum tamp pad. At the precise moment the side of the product passes by the pad, the applicator cylinder extends toward the product, instantly and accurately applying the label, rolling it around the package corner for firm attachment.

4. Print & Apply - As the name implies, the print & apply print applicators print the label then apply it to the product. Designed for rugged use print applicators work with O.E.M print engines.
5. RFID Labeling Solutions - Applying security tags to products with accuracy, while ensuring functionality. RFID printer applicators can now apply thermal/direct transfer tags conforming to packaging corners.
6. Sleeving Equipment - Shrink sleeve labelers solve the problem of labeling oddly shaped containers. They are also used to apply the tamper-evident cap covers which product food, beverage and medical supplies.
