Labeling Systems

Labeling systems include all of the collective equipment that generate and apply product labels. The main components of any labeling system include: printer, applicator, and guide conveyor. The components are in a customized package for the manufacturer and specific to their product requirements.

Summary
Every labeling situation is unique, and the ability to satisfy all the client's needs requires reliable equipment which can be integrated together to meet the client's specifications. Being modular allows labeling systems to be customized, expanded and adapted as labeling needs change.

Methodology
A company identifies a labeling need, whether it is to eliminate hand labeling or to add new capacity. After contacting Label-Aire, a labeling system is designed which will fulfill the client's needs, whether it is for a single label, or several.

Printing
The labeling process begins with a printer connected to a computer. Software details the information which needs to appear on the label, and directs the printer to create a label. The spool of labels advances to expose a fresh label to the print process. Different printers use different methods, the most common are direct thermal printing, or thermal transfer.

Conveyor
The product to be labeled rides on a conveyor, which through a series of guides separates the products and aligns them. When the item to be labeled enters the transfer station is correctly positioned and ready to receive its label.

Application
The printed label is advanced to the application station, where it is attached to the package or product. The type of application procedure is dependent on the type of product and can use air-blow, tamp, or a combination of methods.
